Sony’s New Xperia: Sony Xperia 1 III

Sony Xperia 1 III

The beautiful Sony Xperia 1 III is the new flagship. There are so many awesome features the device holds in it. Let’s have a look at the features.

Display

Like every other flagship, Sony Xperia 1 III has a 120Hz refresh rate screen with higher resolutions. The device also offers 4K display resolution which is sharper and much accurate with colors than most other phones out there now. Sony Xperia 1 III is a 6.5-inch tall and narrow phone with a movie-like 21:9 aspect ratio. The screen is fully flat with an OLED panel. The front panel is Gorilla Glass Victus. The back panel has Gorilla Glass 6 with a matte finish.

Features

This device has a bezel. Yes, Sony could not but have to go with a smaller top and bottom bezel. To refute Sony’s bezel this year, no phone is a truly bezel-less phone right now. This Xperia does not have any facial recognition technology to unlock your device. Rather you will get a side-mounted fingerprint scanner, separated from the power button. All the buttons of the phone are on the right side. There is a two-way physical camera button on the bottom right side. This type of dedicated camera button is not seen these days. But super convenient during photography. The phone is IP68 rated therefore water and dust will not be an issue. Remember Sony Xperia Z which was a water-proof device. Sony does really well with these features.

Performance

Sony Xperia 1 III is rocking with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888, 5nm chip with a GeekBench score of nearly 1113 on single-core, and 3436 on multi-core. This Xperia comes with 12 GB RAM. The device will have 128 GB, 256 GB, and 512 GB Variants.

5G Connectivity

New Xperia is compatible with 5G. This Xperia supports only Sub6 right now. That shouldn’t be an issue. Most of the global carriers are focused on the 5G sub6. There will be Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5, GPS, and many more.

Camera

Sony is famous for its Cameras. Therefore when it comes to the Cameras on a Sony Smartphone, Sony has to uphold its reputation. This Sony Xperia is the world’s first phone with variable optical zoom capabilities. The point here is, there is a periscope style zoom lens where inner elements physically move for better optical zooms. Different levels of optical zoom are possible with this feature. 70mm which is 3x, 105mm which is 4.4x, and so on. All these features come with optical stabilization for clean shots.

The main shooter uses a 12 MP OIS lens. The ultrawide-angle shooter is another 12 MP shooter. This ultrawide-angle shooter features autofocus which is not common in flagships right now.

To perform the best, Sony has introduced ZEISS lenses with a T-coating on them. Apart from this, there are software features like real-time Eye AF that work on humans and animals.

The selfie shooter is an old 8 MP sensor from past years. There is a 3D ToF camera that indicates support for Eye focus tracking.

Sony is more focused on natural colors than vivid colors during a shot. Thus Sony gives more natural photos. New Sony Xperia has come with incredible auto-focused 4K videos @120fps with HDR. How cool is that Slo-Mo!

Gaming

Sony never compromises when it comes to Gaming. Remember Sony Xperia P, that slider joystick phone?

This time Sony integrated powerful stereo loudspeakers and 240Hz motion blur reduction support for a smooth gaming experience. Low gamma raisers are there to enhance visibility in shadows. Sound equalization will give you better gunshots and footsteps detection. The Mic has got adjustments for eliminating more background noises and clears the voice input with better amplification.

Sony Xperia 1 III also features 1080p @120fps game recording for streamers. There is a Rewind time recording option similar to NVIDIA’s highlight recording. This feature records the last 30 seconds of the game during the gameplay. As soon as you hit record, the software rewinds the last 30 seconds, records the clip, and saves it in the internal storage.

Speaking of gaming features, there is a headphone jack. No joke but Sony added a 3.5mm headphone jack on Xperia 1 III.

Battery

Xperia 1 III has come with a 4,500mAh non-removable battery with 30W Fast Charging and it takes nearly an hour or more to fully charge the device. This Xperia also allows wireless Fast Charging. Sony claims the battery will support the device for at least 3-years.

Prices

Sony always offers the best with a higher price tag. Sony also offers nice gifts like headphones and so on. Thus a higher price tag actually pays off. The 128 GB Variant may cost you approximately $1,100, 256 GB will have an approximate price tag of $1,200. 512GB might cost another $100 more which is $1,300. Sony will confirm the figures soon.
